The Institute’s educational programmes fall into three main categories:

  • General Education.  General education includes activities aimed at educating the general public about issues concerning unmanned systems. Articles in newspapers and magazines, documentaries and news clips on television are normally part of this activity. Maintaining lists of subject matter experts and spokespeople is important, as is being registered as a source of authoritative comment with the international press and media organizations.
  • Student Competitions.  AUVSI and the AUVSI Foundation, in conjunction with a range of partner organizations, run one ground, two air, and one underwater student competitions. The Institute will assist wherever appropriate in support of the competitions and might publish selected papers from the competitions in its journals.

The Institute might sponsor Student Essay/Paper Competitions on appropriate topics, publishing selected entries in
    journals.

  • Professional Development (PD).  Professional Development Courses (PDC) and similar activities are the main educational activities of the Institute.

The intention is to deploy a set of basic ‘Introduction to...’ PDC, followed by Intermediate and Advanced courses. The PDC are focused on individuals who have left educational establishments and wish to become both knowledgeable and qualified in the Unmanned Systems area.

In addition, it is intended to hold workshops and seminars focused on topical issues, to deliver continuing PD to professionals already working unmanned systems.
